Intro

Reducto Office is a free, agent-native office suite from document-AI company Reducto, launched on October 29, 2026 as a plugin for ChatGPT and Codex. It lets AI agents open, edit and create real Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx) and Excel (.xlsx) files while keeping their full structure — tables, tracked changes, comments, slide layouts, fonts and charts — and shows every change in a live editor where people can review and refine the result.

Reducto announced the launch as a partnership with OpenAI. CEO Adit Abraham's post ("We made the best agent-native office suite. It's free, collaborative, and more precise than other tools for docx, pptx, and xlsx editing") passed 240,000 views and 350+ likes, and Reducto's CTO says it has become his default way to draft legal documents, spreadsheets and slides.

Why it exists

Chat assistants are good at writing text but bad at editing existing Office files: a contract has nested tables, reviewer comments and tracked changes; a deck depends on layouts, fonts and charts. When an agent rewrites the raw XML or regenerates the file, formatting usually breaks. Reducto started out turning complex documents into data AI can understand; Office extends that into editing.

How it works

  • Headless document engine — instead of a GUI built for humans, Office exposes a document engine that agents operate directly, applying targeted edits to structured files.
  • Live editor — each change is reflected in an editor the user can open, inspect and keep refining in the same file.
  • Full fidelity — the goal is that tables, comments, tracked changes, slide masters and charts survive edits.
  • Three formats — DOCX, PPTX and XLSX, both editing existing files and generating new ones from a brief.

Free, installed from the plugin directory inside ChatGPT and Codex (search for "Reducto Office").

Usage

  1. In ChatGPT (or Codex), open Plugins, search for Reducto Office and click Install.
  2. Attach an existing .docx, .pptx or .xlsx file, or describe the document you want.
  3. Ask for targeted changes, e.g. "Translate every slide into Japanese but keep the layout" or "Add a termination clause and track the change".
  4. Open the live editor to review what the agent changed, then keep editing by hand or ask for further revisions.
  5. Download the finished Office file.

Tips

  • Be specific about what must not change (styles, numbering, branding).
  • For contracts, ask the agent to use tracked changes so reviewers can accept or reject each edit.
  • Always check numbers and legal wording yourself before sending.
