Intro

Cyclon is an AI phone from a Y Combinator Fall 2026 startup that designs hardware and OS together, so asking the phone to get things done is the primary interface—not another assistant app. The OS can act inside the apps you already use, generate missing tools on demand, and keep working in the background.

It was founded by Adam Zinebi (CEO; UC Berkeley / EPFL / ex-Oracle) and Thomas Kiefer (CTO; Stanford / ETH / ex-Google). The site takes a refundable $199 deposit toward an estimated $699 device. First-batch buyers join a closed beta and get an early-access Google Pixel 8a running Cyclon OS within about 30 days (US only). Custom hardware is estimated for Q2 2027, subject to FCC authorization; the phone on the marketing site is still concept hardware.

Explain

Product thesis

  • One device, hardware + OS: not a chat bot bolted onto stock iOS/Android, but task delegation as a system capability.
  • Keep your apps: act inside WhatsApp, DoorDash and others with your accounts and rules, instead of forcing a migration.
  • Build missing tools: e.g. an inbox that gathers calls, notifications and follow-ups.
  • Background continuity: leave standing instructions like "if the courier calls, tell him to come up."

Status as of 2026-11-03

  • Public demo/pre-order page is live; the founder's X post drew ~2.4k likes / 888k+ impressions and hit X News.
  • Software path: first US buyers get a Pixel 8a + Cyclon OS closed beta.
  • Hardware path: custom phone still in development/certification, targeted for Q2 2027.
  • Open questions remain around battery life, app compatibility and competition with efforts such as Iris.

This is an early hardware-startup launch; shipping capacity and real-world UX are still unproven.

Usage

Who should care

  • Product people and investors watching AI-native phones / agent OS bets.
  • US users who want early access to cross-app voice tasking and accept a Pixel bridge device.
  • Developers studying how voice agents take real system permissions and background work.

How to participate

  1. Read the product and FAQ at cyclon.ai.
  2. If you are in the US and okay with beta cadence, place a refundable $199 deposit at cyclon.ai/preorder.
  3. Watch official updates for Pixel 8a fulfillment and custom-hardware timing; review refund and FCC terms before paying.
  4. Treat this as trend-tracking and closed beta for now—not something to depend on in production.
